Gever Tulley- Five things your children should do?!

Number one- Play with fire
Number two- Buy them a pocket knife
Watch and find out the others...... Food for thought.

Here are some labels that Gever thinks we should have on toys.

Awesome topic Stuart! What a breath of fresh air Gever Tulley is. I already let my son have a turn on the chain saw, operate the hydaulic wood splitter, drive with me etc... We live in such a PC/no risk world now, its no wonder so many of our young men die in horrific car crashes caused by speed, because many of the drivers havent been allowed to take controlled risks as children and have little concept of the consequences of their actions or understand the improtance of personal responscibility. I would like to see kids at Stanley Ave be allowed to play bullrush or tackle rugby without supervision and be allowed to climb designated trees just like we used to. One or two broken limbs a year doesnt justify a blanket ban on these activities IMO.

Interesting comments. We encourage risk taking in the class and need to look at what is happening outside the classroom. A school in Hamilton has just recently opened up it's guly to year 6 students to play in for the term, building huts and the like.
